Food For Thought

Trekking in Killmanjaro
Founded in 2014, Food for Thought aims to encourage conversation around the dining table and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness. Hospitality workers are among the 3 million Australians currently suffering from the effects of mental illness, yet the struggle is often one of solitude.

The small-scale (50-seat) dinners raise funds for Beyond Blue and R U OK?, with 100% of profits going to support the charities.

WA Community Ambassador Blake Wood says going through his own battles inspired him to reach out to people, make them feel confident and show there are always people that care.

That's why he created the 'Crossfit Community Challenge' throughout Perth to give them the tools to help others share what they're going through and show people they have a judgement-free community that has their back.

What an inspiration.

"A member of my team took their life several years ago. I experienced firsthand the impact it had on family, colleagues and me personally. At the time, I said to my team I would do more to raise awareness of suicide and mental health – I thought jet skiing from Melbourne to Brisbane would be a great way to prompt conversation."

Scott Tipping jet skied in support of R U OK? over 11 days to raise awareness amongst his colleagues and the community and fundraised over $25,000 in the process.
