Today, Monday 8 March 2021, is International Women’s Day, a day where we celebrate incredible women leaders who have changed the world. But changing the world for one person matters just as much. So today we are celebrating the women who have changed our lives.

We asked our community who the women are that have made a difference in their life and why. Here’s what they had to say.

My Mum

  • “Mum is my main support, as I struggle with depression, anxiety and PTSD.”
  • “My mum is my rock. She has always been there and always will be. And the best thing is, I get free counselling from her!”
  • “Her love is unconditional and her strength is unmatched by any other woman that I have met.”
  • “She may not be with me now, however the way she made me feel lingers forever.”
  • “Put simply, without my Mum I wouldn’t be here today. Her strength and resilience have guided me through life and on my toughest days, I know she will be my calm.”

My Sister

  • “My sister is my sounding board when I need someone to help me think rationally. Sometimes it is annoying how logical she is in those moments but she’s saved me more times than she knows.”
  • “My sisters have shown me what unconditional love is. Love can rescue anyone’s soul.”
  • “She saved my life and taught me that life may be hard but it is worth living.”

My Daughter

“She’s fearless, strong and true to herself – I am inspired by her everyday.”

My Partner

“She inspires me to never give up. She overcame people’s opinions and proved them wrong by becoming an author, onto her third novel!”

“She is my world and I do everything I can for her. She is the mother of my two sweet girls.”

“At my lowest, she never lost hope of what I had inside and helped me rebuild my life. She’s my angel.”

My Grandma

  •   “My grandma – she raised me!”
  • “Nanna made me feel safe, loved unconditionally and brightened every room she was in with her kindness. She taught me to be patient, to forgive and to hold those you love very close.”
  •  “She always taught me to put myself first, and not let others walk all over me.”

My Colleague

“One of my first ever managers taught me everything I know today, and it is because of her patience and mentoring that I have been so successful in my career and personal life.”

My Friend

  •  “A woman came into my life and practically saved me from my second suicide attempt.”
  • “She inspires me to do more in life. She’s done DIYs all by herself.”
  • “She stopped me from suiciding twice and we are now good friends.”
  • “My riding trainer. She pushes me, inspires me and truly believes I can do it!”
  •  “My friends have made me more proud of who I am.”

A message to all the women in our lives

Our community had a few things they wanted to say to the wonderful women in their lives.

  • “Thank you for being you.”
  • “Thank you so much for believing in me.”
  • “Thank you for saving me when I couldn’t save myself.”
  •  “You gave my life hope and helped me stick back the broken pieces when I couldn’t.”
  •  “I LOVE YOU.”

Whether it is because they inspire you, give advice, lend an ear, or provide endless laughs – who is a woman that has changed your life? Send them a text, give them a call, or check in to let them know just how much they mean to you. You will probably make their day.
